Terms of Service
Last Updated: May 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading or using Meal IQ, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. Description of Service
Meal IQ is an iOS application that uses AI to estimate the nutritional content of meals from photographs, voice descriptions, or free text. The app uses the USDA FoodData Central database for nutrition lookups and stores all user data on-device. Optional features include Apple Health sync (read body weight, write calories and macros), local meal-window reminders, an Inaccuracy Flag tool, and a CSV export of your meal log.
3. Medical Disclaimer — Please Read
⚠️ Calorie and nutrition information provided by Meal IQ is an estimate generated by AI and may not be accurate. The app is a convenience tool, not a medical device. Do not rely on Meal IQ for medical, clinical, or therapeutic nutritional guidance. Consult a registered dietitian or physician for personalized dietary advice, particularly if you have a medical condition or eating disorder.
4. Subscription Terms
- The free tier is supported by Google AdMob advertising (interstitial, banner, and app-open ad formats). Before the first ad, iOS will ask for your tracking permission via the App Tracking Transparency prompt; you can decline and still use the free tier without penalty.
- Meal IQ Premium is available at $4.99/month (Premium Monthly) or $39.99/year (Premium Annual), billed through Apple's in-app purchase system. Premium removes all ads in the app.
- Subscriptions include a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. You will not be charged during the trial period and can cancel before it ends to avoid any charge.
- Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. Manage or cancel your subscription at: iOS Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Meal IQ.
- Refunds are governed by Apple's refund policy. We do not offer partial refunds for unused subscription periods.
5. Apple Health Sync (Optional)
Meal IQ can optionally sync logged meals to Apple Health (writing calories, protein, carbohydrate, and fat) and read your most recent body weight from Apple Health to inform calorie-goal suggestions. This sync is opt-in and can be revoked any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Meal IQ. We have no server access to your Apple Health data; see the Privacy Policy for full details.
6. Acceptable Use
You may use Meal IQ for personal, non-commercial purposes only. You may not: reverse-engineer the app, extract the AI models or USDA database, use the app to develop a competing service, or access the backend API outside of the app.
7. Intellectual Property
The Meal IQ app, design, branding, and backend infrastructure are owned by the developer. The USDA FoodData Central nutrition data is in the public domain. Emoji assets are provided by the operating system.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
Meal IQ is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. We make no warranties that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI nutritional estimates will be accurate.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claims arising from your use of Meal IQ shall not exceed the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for decisions made based on the app's nutritional estimates.
10. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States.
